Bill Viola Jr. is a highly regarded promoter in the martial arts and fitness industry. He is the founder of Kumite Classic Entertainment, a production company that organizes one of the largest multi-sport expos in the United States, the Kumite Classic. This event, held annually in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, showcases various combat sports, fitness competitions, and health & wellness initiatives.
As a promoter, Viola Jr. has been instrumental in reviving and preserving the history of martial arts in America, particularly through his efforts in recognizing the origins of mixed martial arts (MMA). His book “Godfathers of MMA” (later re-released as “Tough Guys”) played a key role in documenting the roots of modern MMA, which led to the production of the Showtime documentary “Tough Guys” (2017).
In addition to his work in martial arts promotions, Viola Jr. has been involved in various fitness and sporting events, using his background in martial arts to bring attention to the discipline and promote its values. His efforts have helped bridge the gap between traditional martial arts and modern competitive fighting, and he continues to work as an advocate for the sport.
His promotional work extends to youth karate and sport karate through the WAKO, where he promotes competitive tournaments for young martial artists. Viola Jr. has also played a pivotal role in growing the Viola Karate legacy, continuing the work of his father, Bill Viola Sr., in the martial arts community.
